皆さんこんにちは。池袋西口に構える池袋マルイが2021年8月をもって閉店となります。

先日、仕事で池袋にいった際に、マルイの垂れ幕に目を奪われました。
「44年間に、感謝　池袋の街ありがとう　さよなら大感謝祭開催中」
気付かなかった私もなんですが、当たり前のように昔からお世話になっていた百貨店が無くなるというのは寂しく感じます。
Hello everyone. Ikebukuro Marui, located at the west exit of Ikebukuro, will be closed in August 2021.
The other day, when I went to Ikebukuro for work, I was fascinated by Marui’s banner.
“Thank you for the city of Ikebukuro for 44 years. His goodbye Thanksgiving is being held.“
I didn’t realize it, but I feel lonely that the department stores that I have been taking care of for a long time will disappear.

なぜ閉店なのか？
建物が築50年近く経っており、所有権者の日本土地建物が建物の老朽化が進んでおり、建て替えを検討しているとのことで閉店を決めたとのことです。
確かに旧耐震時代の建物なので安全性を考えれば建て替えるに越したことはありません。

The building is nearly 50 years old, and the owner, Nihon Tochi Tatemono, is aging and is considering rebuilding, so it has decided to close the store.
Certainly, it is a building from the old earthquake-resistant era, so considering safety, it is best to rebuild it.

コロナの影響は？
今回の建て替えの検討に追い打ちをかけたのは間違いないと思います。
売上高は前年比が約7%減の約54億円だそうで、ピーク時の2割程度とのことです。
What is the impact of COVID-19?
I think there is no doubt that it has added to the consideration of rebuilding this time.
Sales are said to be about 5.4 billion yen, down about 7% from the previous year, about 20% of the peak.

撤退後の跡地の予定は？
今のところ、はっきりとした予定は決まっていませんが、池袋西口エリアは再開発の計画がされています。
大規模な計画のもと西口エリアで超高層ビルを建てる話も出ているようです。
ただ、マルイは駅から少し離れているため、計画に含まれるのは難しいかもしれません。
別で違った形に生まれ変わるのかもしれませんね。
What are your plans for the site after the withdrawal?
So far, no clear schedule has been decided, but there are plans for redevelopment of the Ikebukuro west exit area.
There seems to be talk of building a skyscraper in the west exit area under a large-scale plan.
However, Marui is a little far from the station, so it may be difficult to include it in the plan.
It may be reborn in a different shape.

マルイは池袋に戻るのか？
今の時代に本音を言ってしまえば厳しいかもしれません。
百貨店が次々と閉店してしまう状況で、同じ形では難しいでしょう。
今後コロナが収束したなかで、特化した商品をメインに動いていくか、インバウンド客を取り囲んだりと、テーマを決めて動いていかなければ勝ち残ることは難しいと思います。
Will Marui return to Ikebukuro?
It may be tough to say the truth in this era.
In a situation where department stores are closing one after another, it will be difficult in the same way.
As COVID-19 converges in the future, I think it will be difficult to survive unless we decide on a theme and move, such as focusing on specialized products or surrounding inbound customers.

20代の頃にお世話になっていた池袋マルイ（前はマルイシティ池袋だったかな・・・）が無くなるのは本当に寂しい思いです。
老朽化がメインで、追い打ちをかけるようにコロナで打撃を受けたと思いますが、今の時代背景についていけなくなったのかなとも思います。
いま残っているマルイの各店は、今の時代を生き抜くための打開策を見つけて、何とか残ってほしいものです。
そんな私の今のメインのマルイは北千住ですｗ

I really miss Ikebukuro Marui (I think it used to be Marui City Ikebukuro …) that I was indebted to when I was in my twenties.
I think that the main thing was aging, and I was hit by the corona as if to catch up, but I think I couldn’t keep up with the current background.
I hope that each of the remaining Marui stores will find a breakthrough to survive in this era and somehow remain.
