ことわざは面白いvol.6 The saying is interesting.

Hello everyone. Today is the 6th saying.
Today’s saying is, “The head of the sardine is also from devotion.”
To be precise, it is from the heart (godliness) that also believes in the head of the sardine.
It’s a little difficult.

Origin
It is derived from the custom of Setsubun.
The custom of inserting the sardine head and holly into the doorway is said to be based on the Heian period custom of decorating the head and holly of Shimenawa.

meaning
Even a trivial thing like a sardine’s head will be appreciated if you have a belief in it.
“Head” is also read as “Kashira”.

Example / How to use
The sardine’s head was also devoted, and it seems that good things would have happened if her sister believed in TV fortune-telling and wore lucky items.

Sardines in Setsubun
It has become less common in recent years, but when it comes to Setsubun, it is customary to decorate the entrance with “Hiiragi Iwashi,” which is a holly branch with roasted sardines.
This was born out of the holly leaf thorns piercing the demon’s eyes and the smell of sardines thought to drive the demon away.

In the center of the city, I can no longer see a house that decorates the front door with a sardine head stabbed in a holly.
I used to see it a while ago.
If you see the children today, you may be surprised in a sense.
The day of Setsubun is said to be the day before the beginning of spring, and it seems that it is not a fixed day.
It seems that February 2nd was setsubun in 2021 for the first time in 124 years.
Why don’t you look at the front door when you go for a walk, etc. at the time of Setsubun next year.
See you !
