由来
もとは中国の戦国時代の思想家・荀子のことば。
青色は藍という草からとるが、その青色は、原料の藍の葉の色よりもずっと青くて美しいことから。
Origin
Originally the words of Chinese warring era thinker Junshi.
The blue color is taken from the grass called indigo, because the blue color is much bluer and more beautiful than the color of the raw material indigo leaves.
意味
教え子が教えてくれた人の実力や技術を超えて、もっと優秀になることのたとえ。
Meaning
The parable of becoming more excellent beyond the abilities and skills of the person taught by the student.
例・使い方
今年からおじいちゃんに将棋を習っている。
青は藍より出でて藍より青し。
いつか師匠のおじいちゃんを負かしてやるぞ‼
Example / How to use
I’ve been learning shogi from my grandpa since this year.

藍とは？
「藍」はタデ科の植物で、秋に紅色の小さな花をつけ、葉や茎が染物の材料になります。
古くから青色の染料として使われ、とくに江戸時代には着物の染料によく使われました。
What is indigo?
“Indigo” is a plant of the Polygonaceae family, which produces small crimson flowers in autumn, and its leaves and stems are the materials for dyeing.
It has been used as a blue dye since ancient times, and was often used as a dye for kimono, especially in the Edo period.

師匠を超える逸材と言えば、将棋界の藤井壮太さんを思い浮かべます。
師匠の杉本昌隆さんを、2018年の第68期王将戦1次予選、当時16歳で最年少だった藤井壮太さんが破るという快挙がありました。
現在は八段で王位、棋聖の二冠であり、本日7月3日のタイトル防衛戦および昇段にチャレンジとなります。
この状況を考えれば藤井壮太さんは師匠の杉本昌隆さんをすでに超えており「青は藍より出でて藍より青し」が当てはまると思います。
今日のニュースが楽しみですね。

Speaking of talent that surpasses the master, I think of Sota Fujii in the shogi world.
His master, Masataka Sugimoto, was defeated by Sota Fujii, who was the youngest at the age of 16 in the first qualifying round of the 68th King War in 2018.
Currently, he is the double crown of the throne and Kisei in the 8th dan, and will challenge the title defense battle and promotion on July 3rd today.
Considering this situation, Sota Fujii has already surpassed his master Masataka Sugimoto, and I think that “Aoha aiyori idete aiyori aoshi” applies.
