皆さんこんにちは。今日はことわざ第13弾です。

今日のことわざは「弘法筆を選ばず」です。
弘法とは弘法大師で、またの名を平安初期の僧侶である空海のことです。
Hello everyone. Today is the 13th saying.
Today’s saying is “don’t choose Kobo brush”.
Kobo is Kobo Daishi, also known as Kukai, a priest in the early Heian period.

由来
書道の有名人だった弘法大師は、どんな粗末な筆であっても立派な字を書いたことから。
Origin
Kobo Daishi, who was a celebrity in calligraphy, wrote fine characters with any poor brush.

意味
名人や達人と呼ばれる人は、道具の良し悪しに関係なく、すぐれた仕事をすること。
未熟な人が、失敗を道具のせいにすることに対するいましめの意味もある。
Meaning
People called masters and masters do good work regardless of the quality of the tools.
There is also a commandment for immature people to blame their mistakes on tools.

例・使い方
姉は、試合に負けるたびに「ガットの張りがおかしい」と、ラケットのせいにする。
でも、弘法筆を選ばずで、本当にうまい人は道具のせいにしないと思う。
Example / How to use
Every time she loses the game, she blames the racket, saying, “The tension of the gut is strange.”
However, I don’t think people who are really good at choosing Kobo brushes will blame the tools.

弘法大師とは？
弘法大師は真言宗を開き、その教えを広めるために全国を旅したと言われます。
大師が訪れた土地には、寺院の建設をはじめ、温泉の発見など、さまざまな伝説が残っています。
What is Kobo Daishi?
It is said that Kobo Daishi opened the Shingon sect and traveled all over the country to spread the teachings.
Various legends remain in the land visited by the Daishi, such as the construction of temples and the discovery of hot springs.

私はゴルフをやりますが、思っていた打ち方が出来なかったり、思わぬところへ球が飛んで行ってしまった時に道具のせいにしてしまう時があります。
まさに道具に頼らず、技術を磨かねばと思うことわざですね。
ただ、もう10年も使っているクラブなので、そろそろ買い換えたい今日この頃です・・・

I play golf, but sometimes I can’t hit it as I expected, or I blame the tool when the ball flies to an unexpected place.
It’s a saying that you have to hone your skills without relying on tools.
However, it’s been a club I’ve been using for 10 years, so it’s about time I want to buy a new one …
